The fishing is world class. From Mackerel to the great Blue Marlin, the game fishing is second only to it's westerly neighbor, the Bimini's. Great Harbour is an excellent spot for bottom fishing (Snapper, Grouper, etc. "Meat Fishing" or Super-market fishing is most popular among the American inhabitants. Deep dropping over 1,200 feet within a couple of minutes and a couple of minutes later "Fish On" is the call of the day. When offered a challenge (to give the fish a chance) many brave the shark infested waters (only when there's blood in the water) and utilize the Hawaiian Sling. Spearguns are illegal (don't be caught with one onboard). Florida Cray Fish or commonly know as the Spiny Lobsters as abundant on the outer reefs. During the season, the Lobster divers pretty much empty the inside reefs. On the South side of Great Harbour, the flats fishing is world class. West of the Ambergris Cay, Percy Darville (the local fishing guide) will make sure you're experience is one not to forget. No problem having the fish cleaned, the Bahamians are more than welcomed to filet/steak the fish (not the bone fish) in exchange for the heads (for Fish Soup) and a greenback or two. Percy Darville charges $215/315 including boat charter for bonefishing, and $350/500 half/full for deep-sea fishing.
